Glossary
- boolean algebra
- a simple mathematical system based on binary arithmetic and the basis for digital logic operations.
- hi-pot
- a high potential test where a high voltage is applied between the windings and the metal enclosure, core, or other windings.
- megger
- also known as a megohmmeter. This is an instrument designed for measuring insulation resistance.
- milliohmmeter
- an instrument that measures very small values of resistance.
- multimeter
- an instrument that functions as a voltmeter, ohmmeter or ammeter.
- phasor
- rotating vector.
- prony brake
- a braking method where a pulley is applied to a motor and a lever arm of known length is clamped around the pulley. A spring scale can be used to determine the torque of the motor by applying T = length X force.
- undercutter
- machine designed to cut the mica between commutator bars lower than the surface of the commutator bars.
